Transportation of Speciality chemicals in tankers

Speciality chemicals | Transportation of specialty chemical solvents, particularly those with explosive potential, is a major difficulty. However, if protocols are strictly followed, this will be a breeze. Whether delivering to suppliers within the city or crossing borders, the consignor and consignee are responsible for maintaining safety regardless of the distance traveled. Companies rely on a variety of modes of transportation to deliver specialty chemicals, with tanker transportation requiring the most care. There are other safety guidelines to follow, but let’s focus on the obligatory tanker fittings and safety accessories, which are the basic minimum.

TRUCK TANKER MANHOLE COMPONENTS (TT)

The following are the Manhole’s must-have components :

  • Air vent hole – The tanker must breathe both when loading and unloading so that the liquid can take the place of air.
  • Dip Pipe – This is used to gauge the amount of liquid in the tanker.
  • Emergency vent – As the name implies, this vent can be utilised to alleviate pressure in the event of an emergency, preventing a breach or explosion.
  • Seal – This is a highly effective leak-prevention attachment that also protects against theft.
  • Filling pipe – This pipe is where the liquid enters the tanker and must be of sufficient size, i.e. specified.

FUSIBLE CONNECTION

Every tanker transporting flammable chemicals needs a fusible link. The fusible link is a device made consisting of two metal strips fused together with an alloy that melts at a certain temperature and finally separates the two metal pieces.

In the event of a fire breaking out, the fusible connection acts as a safety device, shutting off the chemical in the tanker. As a result, more damage is prevented.

ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES

Battery cut-off switch — The next line of defence is to cut off electrical power. To avoid disasters, vehicles might have their batteries turned off while in travel.

Installing battery covers is a modest step toward practising safety, but it is a good one.

WIRES FOR INSULATING

It’s a simple operation to completely insulate all of the open wiring in the tanker truck, which will improve safety.

ARRESTORS FROM SPARK

Unburned carbon could be present in the fumes emanating from the tanker truck’s silencer, causing sparks. At the correct time, these could operate as possible ignition sources, posing a safety risk. Spark arrestors should be placed to avoid such situations.

SCREEN FOR FIRE

To prevent any ignition source from accessing the fuel tank, a fire screen composed of steel sheets should be installed. This serves as a safeguard against minor accidents becoming life-threatening situations.

STRIPS OF EARTH

To enable proper roots for harmful currents to pass and minimise mishaps due to electric shock, earthing strips must be welded to the tanker.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the above-mentioned requirements, the tanker truck must have two fire extinguishers (10 kg and 1 kg, respectively) within easy reach, a complete First Aid kit for urgent medical assistance, and steel bumpers on the rear end.

When best safety standards are followed, incidents are dramatically reduced; nevertheless, when they are not followed, the consequences, no matter how minor, have a long-term influence on the firm. This effect will emphasise the need of putting safety first in any chemical handling activity. We at LifeChem Pharma have been handling chemicals for over 7 years and strictly follow all safety regulations. Now and always, you can expect trouble-free chemical delivery under the supervision of our certified industry specialists.
