Sulfur trioxide Pyridine Complex

The Parikh-Doering oxidation process is an oxidation process that transforms the primary alcohol into secondary ones, transforming them into aldehydes as well as ketones in turn. The process uses dimethyl sulfuroxide (DMSO) as a catalyst, which is activated by the sulfur trioxide pyridine compound in conjunction with the triethylamine base.

The sulfur trioxide-pyridine compound is used for sulfation of alcohols, sulfonations and deoxygenations, and other reductions, and oxidations using dimethyl sulfur dioxide. It also serves as a source for sulfur trioxide, particularly for the production of sulfate ester. Additionally, it can be used as an activating electrophile during the oxidation process of Parikh-Doering. Additionally, it is also utilized for the preparation and anticoagulation tests of silk fibroin that has been sulfated.
