Overview
Methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate, also commonly called methyl triflate and abbreviated MeOTf, is the organic compound with the formula CF3SO2OCH3. It is a colourless liquid used as a methylating agent in organic chemistry. It is closely related to methyl fluorosulfonate.
Although there has been no official report of human death from methyl triflate, several cases have been reported for the structurally related methylating agents, and its toxic effects are presumed to be similar.
It is a strong methylating reagent, commonly used for pre-methylation of polysaccharides under mild basic conditions.

- Identification of zerovalent sulfur and polysulfides in water wells and lithium-sulfur battery electrolytes by chromatography-based methods
- Reactions involving potassium enolates
- Conversion of amine triflates to methyl derivatives
