Methyl Hydrazine Solution 80-85% In Water

The vapors of Methyl Hydrazine are highly toxic, and the liquid can be extremely corrosive to the skin. Methyl Hydrazine is the most potent convulsant, and also the most poisonous of methyl-substituted hydrazine derivatives. It is more poisonous than Hydrazine. In high doses, it is a potent Central Nervous System poison that could result in convulsions or even death. The skin rash can be made worse due to contact with the skin. (EPA, 1998) [Methyl Hydrazine Solution]

Monomethylhydrazine (mono-methyl hydrazine, also known as MMH) is a very toxic volatile hydrazine chemical that has its chemical formula CH3(NH)NH2. It is utilized as a rocket propellant bipropellant engine since it’s “hypergolic” with various oxidizers like nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) and nitric acid (HNO3). It is a propellant and is described in MIL-PRF-27404.

MMH is a hydrazine derivative that was previously used for the orbital maneuvering systems (OMS) as well as the reactions control systems (RCS) engines on NASA’s Space Shuttle, which used MMH as well as the MON-3 (a combination of nitrogen tetroxide and around 3 percent nitric oxide). The chemical is poisonous and carcinogenic when used in small amounts however it can be easily stored in orbit and provides moderate performance at a very low fuel tank weight. [Methyl Hydrazine Solution]

MMH as well as its chemical cousin the chemical compound unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) have the major benefit in that they are stable enough to be employed in regeneratively cool rocket engines. They are also able to be used in regeneratively cooled rocket engines. European Space Agency (ESA) has been looking for alternatives in bipropellant rocket systems to stay clear of toxic chemicals like MMH and its cousins. [Methyl Hydrazine Solution]
