3,5-dimethylcyclohexanone

3,5-dimethyl cyclohexanone, cis 3,5-dimethylcyclohexanone, 3,5-dimethyl-1-cyclohexanone, 3,5-Dimethyl-cyclohexanon, Cyclohexanone, 3,5-dimethyl

3,5-DimethylcyclohexanonePerfluoro-1,3-dimethyl cyclohexane can be manufactured by the Fowler process, which involves moderating the action of elemental fluorine with cobalt fluoride in the gas phase from meta-xylene. This is preferred as the starting material over 1,3-dimethyl cyclohexane as less fluorine is required.

Perfluoro-1,3-dimethyl cyclohexane is chemically inert and thermally stable (to over 400 degC). It is not toxic. It is a transparent, colorless liquid with a high density with low viscosity, and low surface tension. It will then quickly evaporate. It is a fairly good gas solvent, however, it is a poor one for liquids and solids. In common with other cyclic perfluorocarbons, perfluoro-1,3-dimethyl cyclohexane can be detected at extremely low concentrations, making it ideal as a tracer.
